Week 3. Confused

At this point I have mixed feelings.  I still feel eager and impatient on what´s to come.  All the great resources that I didn´t know of, are and will definitely be beneficial in my teaching practice.

At the same time I fill overwhelmed, so many accounts, usernames, passwords and so on.  I try my best to keep it simple but it worries me (even though I’ve written the information just in case I forget)  that I won´t be able to access one account.  I wish there were a website where I could just write my username and password once and just like magic I could see all my accounts, my email, my Jupiter grades, my wiki class, my delicious page, my blog, my nicenet, etc.

This week the readings were very interesting.  I agreed with what was suggested and through experience can completely relate to the CALL advantages and disadvantages.

The delicious page is certainly a resource I will be using often. Being able to see the links others have found on topics I´m interested in cuts the work in half.  I see myself using it as a search engine.  Just because I will be able to see how popular the link is.   It feels though I’m suggesting something completely inappropriate, but just think of putting the resources into good use.

The project worries me a bit.  Just because I saw how detailed and well planned some of them were.  But at the same time Jodi said in the nicenet thread of projects that we shouldn´t start.  That we will do everything step by step.

Hence my mixed feelings, because of everthing I expressed before.
I finish this week on an indefinite note.

  1. Hi Glenda!!
You couldn't have expressed MY feelings in a better way... For all the accounts I have, I keep a small notebook where I write both my username and password... I, just hope i will not lose it. I,aso, worry about the project... I have a lot on my mind and I must give it a clearer picture. Still, Jodi was very ressuring so I hope that we will manage at the end!
Keep your spirits and curiosity up and everything will turn out great!

  2. Hi Glenda,

I know exactly what you mean about all the accounts, login names, passwords - they drive me crazy! I know there are programs or websites that can manage all your passwords for you, but I don't know what they are. What I do is just put them all on a spreadsheet so that when I forget one, I can easily go look and find the information I need. Keep a backup on a USB drive or someplace else, too!

  3. Dear Glenda,

I don't think everything is that complicated. I do it like this:

    1. Open the homepage of our course:

    https://sites.google.com/site/webskillsuo/

    2. Left-click on the particular week. (eg Week 4)
    3. Right-click on 'Jodi-Celeste's Wiki'.
    4. Choose 'Open link in a new tab'.
    5. Right-click on 'Nicenet'.
    6. Choose 'Open link in a new tab'.
    7. Right-click on 'Blogger'.
    8. Choose 'Open link in a new tab'.
    9. Right-click on 'Delicious'.
    10. Choose 'Open link in a new tab'.
    11. Right-click on 'JupiterGrades' (if needed).
    12. Choose 'Open link in a new tab'.

This way you have all the sites open on your computer screen and you just switch from one to another.

As for the usernames and passwords, I use one username for all sites and maybe two passwords, which is supposed to be very unsafe, but I don't care. If you prefer different passwords, try to make them somehow logical and easy to remember.

The project, which hasn't started yet, also makes me shiver with fear, especially after seeing those perfect samples. But I don't think we should worry too much. The course is well planned, and our teachers know how much time each step requires, so we should trust them. Besides, we are a big group of friendly classmates, we read each others posts, share ideas, discuss things and that is how we help and support each other.

    I'm sure, together we'll make it :-D

    Take care,

    Ruta

  4. Hi Glenda,

so many great friends already commented on your posting about overwhelming technological problems. How kind! Actually, this kind of class is quite new for me as well, but as we take this course, I think we are getting close to CALL by outselves, too. Not only providing CALL for our students!

I hope you are getting accustomed to the system, and I bet you will:)
